Union Members Protest Proposed USPS Changes

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Central Ohio postal workers are up in arms about proposed cuts that the federal government plans to impose in the near future.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

The American Postal Workers Union claims the United States Postal Service will contract out 54 local truck driver jobs and close three Central Ohio post offices to help reduce costs.

"These are permanent dangers for a temporary problem. They're doing it in the name of reducing costs. They will not return," Michael Schmid, president of the APWU Columbus chapter, said.

These three Central Ohio post offices could close: Busch Finance Station at 6161 Busch Blvd., Linden Finance Station at 1981 Cleveland Avenue and the Old Town Station at 1035 McAllister Avenue.

The group of about 50 postal workers picketed outside Josh Colin's home Sunday.

Colin is the district manager for the postal service in Columbus.
