CENTRAL OHIO -- AT&T will no longer automatically deliver white page directories in the Central Ohio area.
It began delivering its Yellow Pages Tuesday, and a flier inside the phone book explains how customers can order white pages.
The Ohio Consumers’ Counsel wanted AT&T to give customers notice before phasing out the hard copies, but the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio denied that request.
“Approximately a half-a-million customers do not have computers or Internet access, and so that means there are a lot of customers out there that cannot rely on the alternate measure AT&T has proposed, which is to go online and look up a phone number,” OCC’s Janine Migden-Ostrander said.
Accessing the information at a local library is an option, but reduced hours at some branches won't make it easy for everyone.
Customers can request free directories or a CD-ROM by calling 800-346-4377.
Directory listings also are available online at http://RealPagesLive.com and http://www.YellowPages.com.
A AT&T spokesman said more people are getting their information online or already have contact numbers stored in their cell phones.
