COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man accused of gunning down a victim on Interstate 70 pleaded guilty and was sentenced Monday.
It’s a story NBC 4 has been following since September 2007.
Brandon Russell, 22, was accused of gunning down 30-year-old Javon Gore while driving on I-70 westbound Sept. 2, 2007.
Russell pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and firearm charges in a Franklin County Common Pleas courtroom.
Murder charges were dropped.
Judge Richard S. Sheward sentenced Russell to five years for involuntary manslaughter and three years for the firearm charge.
Gore, a father of six, was fatally shot in the head while driving.
After being shot, Gore veered into a concrete divider and crashed into the berm, police said.
His passenger, a cousin, wasn't injured.
Police said the incident stemmed from an earlier fight at Club Aquarium.
Gore’s family said they wanted Russell to serve life in prison without parole at Russell’s first court appearance.
