LONDON, Ohio -- A suspect turned himself in and a teenager is in custody after a man was fatally shot in a London apartment late Tuesday.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Two men knocked on the front door of an apartment on the 100 block of North Madison Road at about 10:40 p.m., police said.
“My brother looked to see who it was. It was somebody he knew, and he opened the door,” Brandance Petit said.
Brandance said she; her two children; her brother, Blayne Petit; Blayne’s two children and Blayne’s fiancé were downstairs when the men knocked on the door.
Blayne opened the front door, and one of the suspects forced his way inside the apartment, London police said.
“As soon as the one guy came in, the other guy shot him -- shot him in his neck,” Brandance said.
The suspect fired several shots at the man, striking him, police said.
Brandance said she rushed the children upstairs. She and the children hid in a closet while she called 911.
Brandance said one of the suspects put a gun to the fiancé’s head and demanded everything they had.
Then the suspect saw Blayne trying to escape out the back door, she said.
“He tried to run out the back door, ended up getting shot a second time while I was upstairs with my kids calling the police,” she said.
Moments later, Brandance started searching for her younger brother.
“Oh, my God. There's blood everywhere. My brother is dead,” she said.
She found him in the back yard, fatally shot.
“I ran out there looking for him, screaming his name. He never answered me, Then I found him laying in the grass,” she said.
LPD arrived on the scene and found 21-year-old Blayne in a grassy area at the rear of the complex.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“I mean what do you tell a 3-year-old when she asks where her daddy's at? What do you tell her?” Brandance asked.
London police identified 32-year-old Steven L. Howard as a possible suspect Wednesday morning.
Howard is a distant relative of the Petits.
Howard turned himself into London police Wednesday afternoon, and was charged with murder. He is being held in the Tri-County Regional Jail.
LPD continued to investigate and announced they are looking for 19-year-old Michael Scott. At about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, officials announced that Scott was in custody.
Police identified Scott as a person of interest, adding that he is wanted for questioning.
Anyone with information was encouraged to call LPD at 740-852-1414.
