CENTERBURG, Ohio -- A 39-year-old New Albany man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Knox county Friday afternoon.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on U.S. 36 near mile post 1 just south of Centerburg at about 4:36 p.m.

Investigators said 32-year-old Matthew Knecht was traveling southwest on U.S. 36 in a 2003 Ford Expedition and veered left of center, striking a 1990 Freightliner Cabover Tractor, which was traveling northeast on U.S. 36.

As a result, Knecht was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the Freightliner was driven by 39-year-old Michael Peters, of Centerburg. There was a 6-year-old passenger in the Freightliner with Peters.

The child was also ejected upon impact.

Peters was flown to The Ohio State University Medical Center by MedFlight, and the child was flown to Children's Hospital.

Investigators said the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
