COLUMBUS, Ohio -- "We heard gunshots last night...but that's not unusual around here...," stated an area resident who lives just a few doors down from 1607 Myrtle Ave. where the body of a young Hispanic male was found just before 10 a.m. Sunday.
Columbus police were dispatched to the alley behind the house located at 1607 Myrtle Ave. on a report of a body found. Upon arrival, police found the body inside a purple Ford pickup truck and sealed off the area on Greenwich Street between Myrtle and Briarwood avenues.
"The victim was found slumped over with an obvious chest wound...we have not identified him yet," according to Detective Wayne Buck of Columbus Homicide. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nearby residents, who did not want to be identified, informed NBC 4 that they are always hearing gunshots and seeing people in and out of the boarded up and abandoned houses in the neighborhood.
The address is listed and tagged by the City of Columbus as a vacant house so no one knows how long the truck was in the back yard. One resident said that they thought that they might have seen the vehicle before, but could not say whether or not they knew or had seen the victim before.
Investigators are waiting to impound the vehicle to continue searching for more clues and for more information as to the identification of the victim.
Anyone with information is asked to call Columbus police at 614-645-4730.
