COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The days are numbered for the City Center building still standing in downtown Columbus.
Amy Taylor, with the Capital South Urban Redevelopment Corporation, says demolition is expected to start in late September or early October.
Underground parking will remain open, and streets will not be blocked during the demolition. Demolition is scheduled to be complete by next June.
In City Center's place will be the new Columbus Commons.
Phase 1 of Columbus Commons includes a six-acre park, which should be completed by the end of 2010.
The first phase will cost between $15 and $20 million.
Taylor explains 75 percent of the cost is privately funded by Capital South through income generated from office rentals and parking.
The other 25 percent is expected to be raised through federal, state, local and private funds.
Taylor also shared with NBC 4 plans for the pieces of the demolished City Center building: They will be recycled.
Phases 2 and 3 of Columbus Commons will include residential, retail and office units.
Taylor says there is no timetable for those projects because they will be market-driven.
