Police Gas Mask Test Leads To Warning In Ohio

»  Comments | Post a Comment

LORAIN, Ohio
An Ohio police department says a SWAT team test of gas masks didn't go as planned, leaving some residents complaining they felt the effects of tear gas.

Police had to warn people to go inside their homes and close their windows near a shooting range that was the site of Tuesday's test in Lorain, about 25 miles west of Cleveland.

Police Capt. William Engle said Wednesday that the tear gas used in the exercise is similar to pepper spray and normally dissipates right away. But this time, humidity caused a cloud of gas to form and hover over the area for nearly a half-hour.

Engle says the SWAT team will have to find a new location for future drills.
