COLUMBUS, Ohio -- For the second time in two weeks, a German Village letter carrier is seriously injured in a dog attack.
The letter carrier, Adam Dunn, was bitten four times by a boxer at a vacant home on Heyl Avenue at about 10:15 a.m. Monday.
Dunn, 26, was walking south on Heyl Avenue to make a delivery to the next address when one of two brown boxers escaped through a hole that the dogs had apparently dug under a 6-foot-tall chain-link fence.
The dog bit Dunn on the right forearm, the left wrist, right-hand ring finger and left thigh.
Dunn was hospitalized.
Police and animal control agents responded to the scene and were apparently able to capture the dog.
The other dog stayed within the fenced-in yard.
Dunn, who has delivered mail for three years, issued a statement after the attack, asking customers to check their fences if they have dogs enclosed – to prevent opening that would allow a dog to escape and attack a passerby or child.
Dunn said he tried unsuccessfully to fend off the dog using his mail satchel and his dog-repellent spray but that it didn’t subdue the dog.
Two weeks ago, another letter carrier was bitten in the same area after a dog broke through a screen door and attacked her.
