Dem Leader Indicted In Alleged Cash-For-Votes Plan

»  Comments | Post a Comment

ATHENS, Ohio -- A prosecutor says a county Democratic Party leader in Ohio has been indicted on charges she illegally offered money for college students' votes.

Special prosecutor Dave Yost says a grand jury on Monday charged Athens County Democratic chairwoman Susan Gwinn with two counts of election-related bribery.

The indictment stems from an investigation of whether Gwinn offered a $5 bounty for bringing Ohio University students to the polls on Nov. 3.

Gwinn has said there was an agreement to pay students for a get-out-the-vote effort but called the idea of paying for votes ridiculous. She has refused a request from the state Democratic chairman that she resign her post.

Gwinn did not immediately return a message Tuesday seeking comment on the indictment.
