A new tax on cosmetic surgery could decrease the amount of customers some doctors see.
In the new health care bill there is a proposed 5 percent tax increase on cosmetic procedures.
Supporters of the new tax say it could pull in billions of dollars to help foot the bill for heath care.
A common belief is the tax would affect the rich, the stereotypical suburban housewife. However, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 60 percent of their patients earn less than $90,000 a year.
Columbus plastic surgeon, Dr. Carol Clinton says the tax would affect her patients that are looking for basic treatments to get help finding a job. "I have college students who come in and are bothered by some of these things, young mothers, middle-aged men getting back into the job market."
For Dr. Clinton's patients, the new tax would tack on an additional $12.50 to the basic $250 botox treatment.
"It's because they are out of a job and they are trying to make themselves competitive in the market, and I'd be really sorry to see that person be taxed."
