COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Andrew Ginther announced a new voluntary program to keep tabs on materials coming into pawn shops.
Shops like Lev's will start keeping tabs on what comes in, what might be stolen, and how to help people recover stolen items.
The program has been in place since May and is similar to a program that helps track down copper thefts.
Leads on-line has worked already in recovering items that were reported stolen.
Authorities believe the program will make a big difference in not only keeping pawn shops responsible pieces of the community, but crack down on people who are trying to make a quick buck on stolen items.
Columbus City Council will get a look at the ordinance on Dec. 14.
The money to implement the program would be from drug seizure money, officials said.
