2 People, 43 Horses Dead At Lebanon Raceway

LEBANON, Ohio – Two people and 43 horses are confirmed dead after a horse barn fire at Lebanon Raceway Saturday morning.

According to the Lebanon Police Department, the fire was reported around 4:50am Saturday at Lebanon Raceway on N. Broadway Street in Lebanon, Ohio.

The Lebanon Fire Department says a horse barn was fully involved in flames when they arrived on the scene.

The State Fire Marshal investigators have confirmed two human fatalities and 43 race horses dead at this time. Initially, officials believed there may have been as many as 65 horses inside the barn.

Both human victims are adult males. The victims were found in the northern portion of the building.

The Warren County Coroner's Office is conducting autopsies and may have additional information to release Monday.

The investigation is being conducted by the Division of State Fire Marshal, the Lebanon Fire and Police Departments and the Warren County Coroners Office.

The cause for the fire is undetermined at this time, but investigators have ruled out criminal intent.

The Lebanon Fire Department was assisted by 10 mutual aid fire companies and were able to contain the fire damage to one barn, preventing the spread of fire to other nearby barns.
