The president of Venezuela's securities commission has been fired amid a banking scandal that has put President Hugo Chavez on the defensive continues to unfold.
The removal of Antonio Marquez Sanchez was announced Tuesday in the Official Gazette, but authorities did not announce the reasons for his dismissal.
Sanchez was fired two days after Science and Technology Minister Jesse Chacon resigned because his brother, Arne Chacon, was arrested for alleged involvement in the scandal that has forced the government to take control of seven private banks.
Authorities allege widespread irregularities put some of the banks in financial trouble.
