CENTRAL OHIO -- With wind gusts reaching 50 miles per hour and a forecast calling for snow showers and below-freezing temperatures, crews in every county in Central Ohio are working until 7 p.m. Wednesday, and in some cases later, depending on the weather conditions.
This includes Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway and Union counties.
Snow plows will be patrolling roadways and bridges, and they will be stocked with salt.
ODOT District 6 maintains 147 traffic signals in the eight-county region, with the highest concentration of traffic lights in Franklin County.
A total of 16 ODOT crews will be out in Franklin County, half of them in plows, the other half in pick-up trucks where they can respond more quickly if and when the power goes out at any traffic signal.
If the traffic signal is out, treat that intersection as a four-way stop.
ODOT also has generators to power traffic signals until the power is restored at that intersection. ODOT trucks also are outfitted with chain saws and other equipment to help clear roadways quickly of debris, fallen trees and limbs.
