COLUMBUS, Ohio--Columbus police caution you, as they do every holiday season, to hide your purchases from criminals who are out for the easy smash-and-grab crime.
Your job is to make their crime more difficult.
For Dave and Patty Hoop, a criminal would have to jump through hoops to get anything out of their car.
"We are very careful about where we place the stuff we buy. We either put it in the trunk, cover it up, or just drive home after a big purchase."
Those are good ideas practiced by the Hoop family, and Columbus police encourage you to follow their example.
First, police say not to leave anything visible in your vehicle. You can put items in a trunk or cover them up if you have a van or SUV without a trunk.
Second, park as close as you can to the store or near a well-lit area.
It's the little things you do while doing you're shopping that will provide you will all the more protection you need this holiday season.
