COLUMBUS, Ohio – This week’s Crime of the Week from Crime Stoppers concerns a theft that took place on the West Side of the city.
A 79-year old man and his wife noticed they were being followed by a gold vehicle while driving home from running early-morning errands. That was shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009.
As the couple pulled into their driveway, the gold vehicle followed them.
A male black exited the vehicle while the driver pulled down the street and parked.
The male suspect told the elderly couple he was a detective and quickly flashed a badge.
He showed the couple a picture of a person he was looking for, stating he believed the man in the photo was in the couple’s house. He said he needed to go inside to look for the man.
Once inside, the suspect told the couple he needed to call his supervisor.
Moments later, the gold vehicle pulled into the driveway, and a black female entered the house.
The male suspect asked the victim if he had any money. The suspect put on latex gloves and retrieved cash from the victim. stating he needed to check the serial numbers on the bills.
The suspect then tried to persuade the victim to go “Downtown” with him, but the victim refused, stating health issues.
The two suspects left the house in the gold vehicle described as a Ford Taurus.
Neighbors told authorities they had seen the gold vehicle cruising through the neighborhood the previous day.
The male suspect is described as 6 feet 6 inches tall and well-dressed. He was wearing a black leather coat and black hat and glasses.
The female suspect is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall. She was wearing a black leather coat and had “wild” hair.
Crime Stoppers has issued a reward of up to $2,000 for any information received by Wednesday, Dec. 23, that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the persons responsible for this crime.
