TOLEDO - Police say they've shot and killed a woman who was brandishing a weapon at an Ohio group home.
Officers received an emergency call about a woman carrying a knife and behaving erratically at the two-story house in central Toledo. They say they arrived Monday night and confronted the 62-year-old woman.
Police Chief Mike Navarre says officers saw her with a weapon in her hand and exchanged words with her. He says an officer fired several bullets and struck the woman, who died at the scene.
The owner of the Fernwood neighborhood home cared for at least two residents, including the woman who was killed.
Police and the woman's loved ones say she had mental health issues.
Police say the fatal shooting by an officer in Toledo is this year's fifth, considered rather high.
