COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio's attorney general has filed a lawsuit against a New York-based mortgage servicing company that he claims has been duping its Ohio customers.
Attorney General Richard Cordray filed suit Wednesday against Barclays Capital Real Estate, whose Ohio business goes by HomEq Servicing, goes hand-in-hand with a separate effort by Cordray's office to crack down on foreclosure rescue operations in a state hard hit by the national foreclosure crisis.
The action, filed in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, accuses Barclays of peddling one-sided agreements and providing inadequate customer service.
It's the third such lawsuit the attorney general has filed since January.
Cordray says firms must adhere to the terms of a federal mortgage modification program aimed at helping people stay in their homes.
The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
