COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus officials opposing a casino for the city's Arena District say they want to return a $750,000 Ohio grant for cleaning up the site.
Columbus Development Director Boyce Safford has written the owner of the property saying the application for the environmental grant "significantly misrepresented" how the land would be used. The city says Plaza Properties stated that condominiums would be built on the site near the city's hockey arena and baseball stadium.
Ohio voters last month approved casinos in specific locations in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Toledo.
Safford wrote that the city will hold on to $651,000 in grant money not yet spent and wants back funding already used.
A message for comment was left with Plaza Properties Wednesday.
