A teenager is sentenced after he fatally shot another teen by accident in a Licking County home last month.
ST. LOUISVILLE, Ohio -- A teenager was sentenced after he fatally shot another teen by accident in a Licking County home last month.
It's a story NBC 4 has been following since Sunday, Nov. 15, and there was an update.
Zachary Harvey, 16, was sentenced in Licking County juvenile court Wednesday.
Harvey was placed on probation for an indefinite period. He was to be monitored electronically for at least 45 days. He was to remain under adult supervision for as many as 30 days. He was to take random drug and alcohol tests. He must adhere to a family agreement safety plan. His computer usage was to be monitored. He was not to have a firearm in his home for any reason, and he cannot use a firearm for any reason, according to the prosecutor's office.
The shooting happened at a home in the 9700 block of Stradley Road at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15.
Licking County sheriff's deputies found 17-year-old Heath High School student Tyler Gargus dead from a single gunshot wound to the face.
Detectives said Harvey accidentally shot Gargus in his bedroom.
According to statements, the boys were playing with a shotgun and rifle that were believed to be unloaded.
Harvey lived in the home where the shooting occurred.
Harvey was arrested and placed in juvenile custody. He was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor of negligent homicide.
Harvey's maximum sentence could have included 90 days in jail.
