NEWARK, Ohio -- Licking County employees are facing job cuts as the county faces less income from sales and property taxes.
The county will go from a $51 million general fund in 2009 to approximately $45 million in 2010.
The county commissioners approved some staff reductions Thursday as part of an overall belt-tightening with a target of cutting 10 percent from each department.
The cutbacks include 17 positions will be abolished. Ten of the abolished positions are currently vacant.
"The county is running lean. Everyone is cooperating," said Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb.
Five departments are affected by the layoffs, including child support enforcement, county maintenance, the office of the commissioners, emergency management office and planning department.
