COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University experienced a power outage when construction crews accidentally severed a power line late Wednesday afternoon.
Twenty-six buildings on the North Side of campus were affected as a result of the accident.
The buildings were expected to be without power for at least 24 hours as crews make the necessary repairs.
The university will remain open for business as usual, but employees in affected buildings who are not deemed essential in emergency situations were asked to stay home.
The Ohio State University Medical Center and other essential services -- such as public safety offices -- also will remain open.
Traffic lights may be impacted on Woodruff Avenue and surrounding areas.
Motorists were encouraged to be patient and follow directions of traffic officers. If traffic officers are not present, motorists should treat nonworking stop lights as four-way stops.
Facilities affected include:
- Bolz
- Caldwell
- Central Classroom
- Central Services
- Converse Hall
- Fisher College of Business, including: Mason, Schoenbaum, Pfahl, The Blackwell, Gerlach

The university currently is on break between quarters, with classes resuming Jan. 4.
