COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A new picture of the 2010 economy is emerging as the economic forecast for Columbus is released.
The report is full of numbers that show 2010 should be better than 2009.
At Como Mower in Clintonville, Jerry Devine has been in business for more than 30 years, selling and servicing lawn mowers, snow blowers and chain saws.
While service for the business is up in 2009, new sales are down. 2009 was all about discounts and Devine had to work harder for a sale.
For the Columbus economy, the last year was difficult.
According to a report from the Chamber of Commerce, it appears that employment for 2009 will end up down about 16,500 jobs -- approximately 1.75 percent, which is better than the national drop of 3.7 percent.
For 2010, the report predicts a net gain in employment of approximately 800 jobs, based on job growth in the second half of 2010, offsetting job losses in the first half.
A big factor in economic growth next year is temporary employment.
The report expects that as the economy revives, temporary employees will be the first to return to work.
For Devine, he's just ready for the 2009 books to close and 2010 to be a big brighter for customers who are hungry for deals.
