CENTRAL OHIO – Even before the first flakes fell, ODOT crews were busy preparing Central Ohio roadways, ramps and bridges to make sure they are safe and passable.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS from the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Last-minute holiday shopping over the weekend may be a little tricky due to an intensifying storm moving into Ohio that could bring cold, wet weather, including ice and snow.
ODOT crews in Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway and Union counties began pre-treating roads, ramps and bridges with brine, a water-salt solution earlier this week.
Once applied to the road, the water evaporates leaving a salt powder that starts working as soon as conditions are right for ice and snow to form.
ODOT had more than 60 crews treating Central Ohio roads overnight Saturday.
ODOT said its crews will work 12-hour shifts Saturday to ensure the roads remain safe and passable.
