A new study suggests personal happiness may be dictated by where you live.
Researchers found a correlation between the quality of life in each of the 50 states—and the happiness of people who live there.
The top five happy states are Louisiana, Hawaii, Florida, Tennessee and Arizona.
According to a random sample of over 1 million Americans, these states claim the highest proportion of self-reported happy people.
The unhappiest states, according to this study, were found to be New Jersey, Connecticut and New York.

The study was led by researches at the University of Warwick (UK) and Hamilton College (NY) and published in Science, December 17, 2009.
