YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--An Ohio museum has what officials are calling a very special holiday present: a multimillion-dollar work by American abstract artist Jackson Pollock.
The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown received the 1950 painting "Silver and Black" on Wednesday and plans to begin
displaying it the day after Christmas.
The gift came from a Pittsburgh area couple, William and Linda Roemer. Museum director Lou Zona says the painting was owned by
William Roemer's parents, who lived in northeast Ohio, were supporters of the museum and wanted their son to give the piece to
the Butler one day.
Zona says the parents bought the painting in the 1950s and were likely the original owners.
The museum says the 21-inch by 16-inch painting appraised at $2 million.
