DELAWARE, Ohio -- Officials released new information Monday regarding the crash that killed two Dublin teenagers in November.
Eighteen-year-old Kyle Colello and 15-year-old Lyndsey Rice were killed in the crash on Klondike Road south of U.S. 36 on Nov. 28.
Colello and Rice were traveling southbound on Klondike Road when the driver of the 2000 Toyota Solara lost control when negotiating a right curve, striking the guardrail on the right side of the roadway. The vehicle crossed the roadway and struck several trees off the left side of the road, according to the Delaware post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The teens were not wearing seat belts when the driver lost control, according to Sgt. Kevin Knapp.
During the investigation, evidence was sent to the Ohio State Highway Patrol crime lab to determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Officials reported that tests confirmed that Colello and Rice did not have alcohol or drugs in their systems.
The crash reconstruction unit obtained measurements of the crash scene and vehicle damage to estimate the speed of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The estimate the speed was 65 to 71 mph at the time of the crash. The posted limit on Klondike Road is 40 mph.
The crash remains under investigation.
