GAHANNA, Ohio -- Police surrounded a home in Gahanna early Wednesday, trying to get a suspect in a domestic violence situation to surrender.
The incident began at a home on Triumph Way Tuesday night.
According to the Gahanna police deputy chief, late Tuesday, an officer in the area of the home noticed lights were on at the home and the suspect's vehicle a few blocks away.
The man, identified as Ronald Whiteside, was wanted on warrants for domestic violence and assault.
Officials said he wouldn't answer the door and the officer saw him looking out the window.
Investigators said Whiteside had a violent history and they felt it was important to communicate with him.
Police and SWAT officers tried to persuade him to exit the home, but he would not respond.
Eventually, Whiteside surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody.
Officials said he was in the home alone.
Area residents were evacuated from their homes during the incident.
