COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus police SWAT officers shot a male suspect Sunday night after officers foiled an attempted robbery.

The incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m. at the McDonald's at 381 E. Main St. on the city's near East Side.
SWAT officers were conducting surveillance on the restaurant after receiving a tip on a possible robbery.
Two armed suspects entered the restaurant around 9:45 p.m. and robbed the McDonald's while SWAT was outside the location, according to CPD.
While exiting the building, the male and female were confronted by SWAT.
It remained unclear what happened next, but the female suspect was taken into police custody.
SWAT officers shot the male suspect. He was transported to Grant Medical Center in serious condition.
No customers were inside the McDonald's at the time of the robbery, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
An investigation into the officer-involved shooting began late Sunday, and detectives interviewed several witnesses as well as the involved SWAT officers.
The suspects and the involved officers were to be identified at a later time.
