Trash Day Is A Tip-Off For Thieves

»  Comments | Post a Comment

CENTRAL OHIO -- The gifts have been unwrapped, and you likely have loads of boxes and gift wrapping to get rid of, but residents should beware. Thieves are watching you – and your trash.

NBC 4 reports with the FAST FACTS why trash day is a tip-off.

When you pile your post-holiday garbage high in a bin or leave big-ticket boxes out by your pick-up area, you're giving would-be crooks a menu of what you have inside your home.

Sheriff's officials in Ross County said thieves have been watching, waiting for residents to leave, busting in and helping themselves.

Officials recommended putting your trash out on the day of your scheduled pick-up, instead of a few days out. If you have video-game systems or flat-screen TV packaging, break them down or put them in trash bags so they are hidden from view.
