CLEVELAND
Gov. Ted Strickland's proposal to allow tolls on new road construction could help revive some back burner highway projects in Ohio.
One of those projects is dubbed the Opportunity Corridor, a nearly three-mile leg of highway that would link Interstate 490 and the east side Cleveland area known as University Circle.
Other highway projects the tolls could revive are an interstate link between Toledo and Columbus and a link between Cincinnati and Portsmouth in southern Ohio.
Strickland included the toll proposal in the $55 billion state budget he introduced Monday.
Under current law the Ohio Turnpike Commission oversees tolls in Ohio.
If enacted, Strickland's proposal would allow the Department of Transportation to administer any new tolls.
