NEWARK, Ohio -- Detectives investigating a North End stabbing determined Friday the report was falsified.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS Friday.
A Newark man said a stranger knocked on his North End door and stabbed him Wednesday afternoon.
When Alexander Campbell opened his Mallard Drive door close to 3:30 p.m., he said an unknown male tried to enter his home and then stabbed him.
Arriving law enforcement found Campbell injured at the residence.
Detectives worked with patrol officers and noted several inconsistencies with the victim’s story.
They evaluated the crime scene and available physical evidence.
Investigators also conducted two initial interviews with Campbell.
During a third interview Friday, Campbell was confronted with the inconsistencies and evidence and admitted that he had falsified the report, police said.
Detectives planned to discuss the case with prosecutors to determine if criminal charges were appropriate.
