Utilities Brace For Potential Outages

»  Comments | Post a Comment

CENTRAL OHIO -- Ohio's utilities say they are carefully monitoring weather forecasts to prepare for potential power outages amid expected high winds.

The National Weather Service is forecasting 30 mph winds with gusts up to 60 mph as a storm rolls through southwest Ohio on Wednesday.

Duke Energy spokeswoman Johnna Reeder says the company has canceled time off and has its call-center staff ready to go.

Spokesmen for Dayton Power & Light and American Electric Power say their crews are checking equipment and personnel levels to brace for possible outages.

The utilities have faced two rounds of weather-related outages in Ohio over the past six months.

Wind gusts left over from Hurricane Ike knocked out power in September, and a winter storm about two weeks ago also created outages.
