Duke Energy spokeswoman Johnna Reeder says the company has canceled time off and has its call-center staff ready to go.
Spokesmen for Dayton Power & Light and American Electric Power say their crews are checking equipment and personnel levels to brace for possible outages.
The utilities have faced two rounds of weather-related outages in Ohio over the past six months.
Wind gusts left over from Hurricane Ike knocked out power in September, and a winter storm about two weeks ago also created outages.
