COLUMBUS, Ohio -- According to the Better Business Bureau, you are not always going to get a bargain when you shop at a store that’s going out of business. NBC4’s Matt Alvarez spoke with Joan Coughlin with the Better Business Bureau on Saturday and Coughlin says, “The suggestion of a liquidation sale automatically suggests there are great bargains to be had.”
Some liquidators will set prices and attempt to sell items quickly at the highest profit, meaning some items will actually be marked up for a sale. The bottom line is before you make that purchase, do some price checking. There have been reports that liquidators have marked up prices nearly 100 percent of the regular sale price. This was confirmed by a mystery shopping trip done by consumer reports
