MARYSVILLE, Ohio -- Major improvements are needed -- that's the word out of Marysville.
The mayor said departments like police and fire need new service facilities, and the city is hoping to partner with neighborhoods to get them built.
Peggy Eubanks lived in Marysville for 14 years and in that time, she's seen many other families move in.
"Honda brought them here for sure and employment. That's the reason I'm here," Eubanks said.
Mayor Chris Schmenk agreed with that statement, saying most of that is good news, but that outdated safety departments like police and fire haven't caught up.
"Our city has grown three times since 1980 and while that growth is great, we need to keep up with safety services," Schmenk said.
The issue is the city has grown so much over the last ten years, it's basically outgrown itself.
For example, Schmenk said, the police station is a seventh of the size it should be and that's not the only building causing concern.
The mayor is also focusing on the first department. Compared to other cities its size, Marysville should have several more firefighters.
Schmenk said calls are still being answered and safety is being served. It's the future growth that she's worried about.
She's formed a citizens group that's working to come up with answers, which may ultimately lead to an income tax increase or levy on November's ballot.
