Crews Try To Stop Oil Spill From Reaching Erie

»  Comments | Post a Comment

CYGNET, Ohio
Environmental crews are cleaning up an oil spill in a northwest Ohio river and trying to stop it from reaching Lake Erie.

Crews have plugged the leak that came from a pipe at a Sunoco Inc. terminal near Cygnet (sihg-NET'), just south of Bowling Green.

Officials from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency say they're not sure how much crude oil got into the Portage River and Rocky Ford Creek.

The biggest concern is trying to stop the oil from getting further upstream into the river that dumps into Lake Erie about 40 miles away.

So far, tests show the oil has not gotten into any water wells.
