Ohio Officials: More Filing Early For Tax Refunds

»  Comments | Post a Comment

CLEVELAND , Ohio -- Ohio officials say the number of people filing early income tax returns has increased, perhaps indicating that more cash-strapped residents are hoping to get refunds sooner. Ohio Department of Taxation spokesman John Kohlstrand says state income tax filings so far are up about 10 percent compared with the same period a year ago. He says about 90 percent of those returns include a refund request.

Internal Revenue Service spokesman Eric Erickson says electronic filings for federal returns from Ohio residents have increased slightly over last year and are up about 3 percent nationally. He says the IRS will begin releasing weekly reports on the number of early tax return submissions in the next few weeks.
