CINCINNATI -- A suburban Cincinnati woman whose bulldog died after it was seized by the city is suing the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Officials took Paulette Evans' dog to the local SPCA last summer when it escaped and a neighbor called authorities. She was charged with keeping a vicious dog and related crimes, which were dropped when the dog died.
The 54-year-old and her veterinarian say SPCA officials misidentified the dog as a banned breed.
Evans also questions the SPCA's finding that the dog died of a virus for which it was vaccinated. Her lawsuit in Hamilton County seeks $25,000 in damages.
The SPCA denies any wrongdoing.
A city task force is reevaluating the pit bull ban because of difficulty in identifying the breed.
