WASHINGTON
The FBI has rescued 45 suspected teenage prostitutes and arrested more than 50 suspected pimps in a nationwide sweep that included two Ohio cities.
FBI spokesman Scott Wilson in Cleveland says about 18 adults were arrested in Toledo and Lima.
The three-night initiative called Operation Cross Country aimed to remove children from the illegal sex trade in more than two dozen cities. Federal agents working with local law enforcement found teenage prostitutes ranging in age from 13 to 17. Agents participated in cities from Miami to Anchorage, Alaska.
Investigators over the past three years have been focusing on child prostitution rings operated by Toledo residents who have recruited teens and taken them out of state for prostitution.
