NEWARK, Ohio -- The Longaberger Company took steps Thursday to respond to the economic downturn while continuing to invest in initiatives that will strengthen it for the long term.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Longaberger eliminated 120 management, administrative and support positions, reduced wages for salaried employees at all levels and reduced the manufacturing workforce by 175 people -- including those in basket-making, distribution and woodcrafts.
No hourly employees were asked to take a wage reduction.
All of the affected employees can apply for seasonal positions that will be available at Longaberger Homestead, which reopens March 20, 2009.
Senior managers and Chief Executive Officer Tami Longaberger accepted the largest reductions in pay, according to Longaberger.
“These are tough economic times that unfortunately are having an impact on people we care about,” Tami Longaberger said. “Our hearts go out to our employees and their families. These are difficult decisions, but they are necessary in order to remain strong during these challenging times. We are resolved to remain a vital part of our community and proudly hand make the best baskets in America.”
