COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus police continued to investigate an apparent overnight hit-and run.

NBC 4's Tom Brockman reported with the FAST FACTS Thursday.

Officials said around 3:30 a.m. New Year's Day, Corey Irby, 31, was hit by a car as he was walking along Airport Drive.

Officials said they believe 19-year-old Eric Barnes, the driver, tried to flee the scene before losing control of his vehicle and hitting a utility pole.

Barnes was apprehended nearby and faced charges, including fleeing the scene of an accident.

Irby was taken to Grant Medical Center in life-threatening condition. Irby died at the hospital during the early afternoon hours Thursday.
