BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- An Ohio university is laying off 43 salaried employees, including some who got a letter Christmas Eve telling them they would lose their job. Bowling Green State University expects to save nearly $2 million by laying off the employees on June 30, the end of the budget year. The employees represent all non-faculty salaried workers at the university, such as managers and directors in financial aid, residence life and student services.
University policy requires six months notice when laying off salaried employees. University spokesman Dave Kielmeyer says it was unfortunate that some received the letter Christmas Eve. The layoffs are in addition to a hiring freeze that Bowling Green announced last fall because of the economy.
