DAYTON, Ohio -- Prosecutors in Ohio say they will seek the death penalty against a man accused of killing a young mother in her home, having sexual contact with her 4-year-old son and leaving him at a highway rest stop.
Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. said Thursday a grand jury in Dayton indicted 22-year-old Charlie Myers on numerous charges, including aggravated murder.
Myers made an impromptu statement to reporters last week as he was being led into jail, offering an apology and saying he had made a mistake.
He didn't directly confess to the Jan. 2 killing of the 29-year-old woman in her Dayton-area home, but he acknowledged taking her son and dropping him off at an Interstate 70 rest area in central Ohio, where travelers found the boy wandering around and called police.
The boy turned 5 on Saturday.
