FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio -- The Fayette County sheriff's office continued to investigate a fatal crash that happened at approximately 11:16 p.m. Tuesday.

The initial investigation revealed Vanessa Ferrell, 46, of Galloway was driving a 2007 freightliner and pulling double trailers southbound on Interstate 71. She began to exit at state Route 38 (exit 75), pulling off the roadway to the right onto the emergency lane.
Harold G. Shelton III, 34, of Florence, Ky., also was driving southbound on I-71, traveling behind Ferrell, operating a 2006 International.
He also began to exit SR 38 when his vehicle collided with the rear trailer of Ferrell's vehicle.
Shelton and a 6-year-old passenger, Grace Shelton, were both injured in the accident and were taken to Fayette County Memorial Hospital by Fayette County EMS.
A second passenger in Shelton's vehicle, Madeleine Shelton, 9, was flown by Med-Flight to Nationwide Children's Hospital where she later died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Ferrell was not injured. Both trucks were towed from the scene.
The sheriff's office's traffic-crash-reconstruction, team along with the members of the Fayette County EMS and the BPM Joint Fire District, were called to assist at the scene.
