COLUMBUS, Ohio -- During the summer of 2006, a woman and her sister were visiting with friends when they were caught in the middle of violence.
Police said two armed robbers broke into a home on Linden Avenue, where Elisha Braxton was visiting with her sister and some friends. The break-in led to a struggle with a gun. Braxton, a mother of six children, was shot in the face and killed, police.
Nearly 18 months after the murder on Aug. 28, 2006, Antwonn Smith was sent to prison.
Smith walked into a Franklin County courtroom Wednesday and showed no emotion as he waited to hear his fate, NBC 4's Matt Alvarez reported.
"My intention was for no one to get hurt -- period. I made the choice to not take anything," Smith said in court.
He was sentenced to 19 years in jail for the crime.
