COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The quick actions of a police officer saved a woman's life overnight Wednesday.

NBC 4's Tom Brockman reported with the FAST FACTS.

A Southeast Side home in the 3000 block of Tylor Drive caught fire a little before midnight Wednesday.

Officials said a Madison Township Officer Adam Clark heard the fire run and reports of a woman trapped and headed towards the location.

Clark arrived first on the scene and didn't wait for fire crews to arrive.

Witnesses told NBC 4 Clark broke a first-floor window and rescued a female victim who is partially disabled.

Fire crews arrived moments later, helping Clark and the woman out of the burning home.

A smoke detector did not work, according to officials.

Aside from quick action on the part of rescuers, a closed bedroom door kept fire and smoke out of the victim's bedroom.

"Very, very lucky. The only thing that saved her life is she had her bedroom door closed, which kept the fire and smoke out of her bedroom," Madison Township Fire Captain Matt Seipel said.

Medics examined the victim and her dog, and NBC 4 was told they were fine.

"She's just fortunate since she didn't have a working fire detector. She made it out," Seipel said.

The home sustained smoke and fire damage.

The cause of the fire wasn't immediately available.

One Madison Township firefighter injured an ankle, and a Columbus firefighter sustained minor burns.
