CLINTONVILLE, Ohio -- A Tuesday night meeting about traffic-calming in Clintonville was anything but calm.

NBC 4's Ana Jackson reported with the FAST FACTS.

"The only way you folks can prevail is by shouting everyone else down and telling them to shut up," resident Stephen Hardwick said.

North Broadway residents battled residents who live on side streets over cut-through traffic.

Side-street residents said cut-through traffic is a problem. The city determined the cause is there's no left turn allowed on East North Broadway going west.

The city proposed putting in a turn lane. It claimed it would only widen about 10 feet of existing right of way.

But North Broadway residents feared that would lead to the widening of the entire street.

"Why with a street that takes 20,000 cars a day up and down that people want to further damage that street without any evidence -- only anecdotal evidence," Carole Tomko of the North Broadway Street Association said

"I can sit on my front porch and just watch cars barrel down the street and turn left on to High Street. That may be anecdotal, but I see it all the time,” side-street resident Franco Ruffini said.

A city spokesperson said the city can't move forward with any plans without the OK from the Clintonville Area Commission.

The commission said after yesterday's emotional outcry, it was not exactly sure how it will move forward with the turn-lane issue.
