WHITEHALL, Ohio -- Creationism and evolution are two different schools of thought that bring equal passion to the debate.
That debate is now at the center of controversy in a local suburb, where some want a specific celebration for science and evolution, NBC 4's Patrick Preston reported.
Is promoting science a waste of Whitehall's time? That's the question confronting city council members who are debating whether February should be known as science month.

The request came only after an original proposal to honor the father of the evolution theory -- Charles Darwin -- with Darwin Day was dumped.
"Not everybody in Whitehall believes in evolution vs. creation. Me? I believe in creation," said Danielle Rossey, a Whitehall resident.
"It's fine with me. I like to learn," said Charles Baker, a Whitehall resident.
The councilwoman who first suggested Darwin Day and is now pushing science month said she wants residents to recognize the importance of science education and promote diversity of thought.
"I think everybody is entitled to their own believes, but I think it's important that we put evolution out there so that our students -- and it's in the resolution -- and people can arrive at their own conclusions," said Councilwoman Jacquelyn Thompson.
But at least one fellow member of Whitehall City Council, Wesley Kantor, said it's a waste of time that his constituents don't support.
Still, Thompson said she is hoping a majority of council members support science month when they take up the issue on Tuesday and likely vote on it the following week.
