WORTHINGTON, Ohio -- Multiple law-enforcement agencies were involved in a two-county, 14-mile pursuit that ended in a serious crash early Thursday.
NBC 4's Matt Alvarez reported with the FAST FACTS.
Delaware police said the department received a 911 call from a resident in the 200 block of Sandusky Street.
"And my ex is out here. And there's a restraining order. And, he's threatened ... Go away!"
The resident reported she was threatened with a firearm by her estranged husband. That was close to 3 a.m. Thursday.
Officers responding to the scene observed a vehicle fleeing the area. The vehicle had no headlights on and matched the description of the suspect vehicle, a police report said.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, a 1988 GMC van, on South Sandusky Street, but the driver refused to stop and fled from officers, officers said.
The vehicle fled southbound from the city on U.S. Route 23, police said.
During the pursuit, it was learned the suspect made threats to harm himself in addition to the threat against his estranged wife.
Law enforcement followed the silver van southbound on U.S. 23 from Delaware into Franklin County, attempting to stop the vehicle with stop sticks along the way.
The pursuit ended in Worthington when the driver crashed the van into a tree at High Street and Halligan Avenue.
A witness who wished to remain anonymous told NBC 4 the van was driving at an extremely high rate of speed.
"About a minutes later, I just heard the chopper and saw the car, actually it was a van. He didn't have any front tires. And he was doing like 100 miles per hour," the witness said.
The suspect had several self-inflicted injuries as well as some caused by the crash.
Worthington police and fire departments responded to the one-vehicle accident, and the driver was transported to OSU Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Multiple law-enforcement agencies assisted in the pursuit, including the Delaware County sheriff's office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Columbus police, Franklin County sheriff's office, and Dublin and Worthington police.
The involved agencies were instrumental in keeping other motorists on the road and the public out of harm's way and in keeping this situation from escalating.
The driver's identity was not released immediately.
It remained unclear what charges the driver will face.
An investigation into the original complaint and the crash continued.
